UNFPA has launched: Conversations for a Better World. The blog is created and produced by the Media and Communications Branch of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. Public praises scientists - scientists fault public
A new report by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press finds that overwhelming majorities of Americans believe that science has had a positive effect on society and that science has made life easier for most people. The public - even those skeptical of some scientific conclusions on such topics as climate change and evolution - rates scientists highly and believes government investments in science pay off in the long term.
But the study, conducted in collaboration with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), also finds that the public has a far less positive view of the global standing of U.S. science than do scientists themselves.

We are accepting all digital media entries (writing, videos, audio, games, or mashups) from ymex.org members that fit the theme, could educate the public or offer solutions on the issues around World Population Day. Entries must be youth-produced and fit into the ymex.org guidelines (found on the FAQ's page under the Community tab). Any ymex.org member can enter - just make sure your media is in English language (or provides obvious English translations). Two prizes will be awarded to media created by members under 18 and one will go to any member 18 or older.

Encouraging young people to make a difference in the world through an engineering career is more likely to attract them to the field than emphasizing the challenge of math and science skills, says a new report from the National Academy of Engineering.
The report, Changing the Conversation: Messages for Improving Public Understanding of Engineering, offers tested messages that reposition engineering as a satisfying profession that involves creative ideas and teamwork. It also recommends that the engineering community begin using these messages in a coordinated communications strategy.
